About the Artist
My name is Penny Cheng, and I am the Owner and the person who hand makes all the pieces you see here at Jewelry by Saniki Creations. The name, Saniki, is a combination of the names of my three daughters: Kiara, Anisa, and Saige, who are my inspiration to create.
I immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1974 with my parents and brother. After graduating high school, I went on to be employed as an Office Manager/Accounting Clerk for private and public practices. I also have a background in marketing and retail management/sales. An urge for creativity not found at the office, I switched careers and became a Preschool Teacher and School-Age Daycare Assistant. Still not feeling my creative side fulfilled, wanting to stay at home with my three young daughters, and constantly fixing the poorly made jewelry they would purchase from the mall outlet stores, I discovered the joy of Jewelry Designing.
Saniki Creations is my art, my vision.
I have been creating handmade jewelry since 2009. Self taught, I started my new adventure designing beaded creations using an array of glass, crystals and semiprecious stones. My fondness for all things metal led the way to specialise in Chainmaille, a technique in which small rings are individually woven together to form a specific weave. I teach the art of Chainmaille weaving at a bead supply store in my city and I also find time to participate in craft fairs/trade shows to sell my wares. I am an active Member of the Artists in the Boro group. I am also a devoted child and animal welfare advocate, enjoys being active in my community and to some of my close friends, just a wacky, lovable gal who would do anything for her friends.

My Memberships
Self Representing Artist Jewelry Designer (SRAJD)
Member since 2009. The SRAJD designation is reserved for artisans/designers worldwide who create and sell their own work. A self representing artist does not sell mass produced beads or jewelry. When you buy from an SRAJD, you are supporting the Artist directly, not the middle man.
Member since 2011. Artists in the Boro is a group formed in January 2011. It is inclusive of all visual art media, which endeavours--through meetings, public events and other forums--to discover, promote and celebrate the talents of artists residing in the unique community of Queensborough in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. Artists in the Boro also holds a Group Membership with the Arts Council of New Westminster.
Member since 2011. An exclusive close-knit community of talented artisans, collectively provides a lovely sampling of handcrafted products to celebrities and members of the press at major award show luxury Gift Lounges leading up to The Academy Awards*, The Golden Globes*, and The Primetime Emmys*.
